Our Carmelite friends
Brother Michael and Fr Abbot went to visit some of our Carmelite friends this week. Although Benedictines and Carmelites are very different in their spirituality their life is very similar in practice. The daily round of the liturgy, of work, of silence and of time with the community means that we feel very close to our Carmelite friends. We are occasionally able to help them with bits of heavy manual work. Last year we had great fun delivering several van loads of manure from our farm to a Carmelite enclosure for their rhubarb patch! The photograph shows three of our friends from two different Carmels. The three were brought together when the relics of St Therese visited England and Fr Abbot celebrated Mass and welcomed the relics in a private visit the relics made to a Carmel in the north.
